Dread (EridanxOC)
Chapter Three

Daniela's sleep could've been better. The bed was just an old mattress on the floor, the blanket was scratchy and the pillow smelled to high heaven. It had taken her forever to get comfortable, and even longer to actually fall asleep.

She was woken up fairly early. Sven insisted she got up to eat and get ready for the day. Dani really, really didn't want to, but she didn't have much of a choice. She realized that nothing was really her choice anymore. She didn't like it, but she was forced to accept it.

The breakfast was short and mostly filling. Leah was a very good cook, despite the fact the food was close to expiring. Dani was just glad to get food in her stomach. It was much better than the orphanage's food by a long shot. She almost went for what little was left, but she remembered Leah was pregnant. She left the food for Leah. She needs to eat. Dani went to get dressed, then said a quick goodbye to Leah as she and Sven left.

Daniela followed Sven out of the house. She looked around to find other humans filing out of their homes. They aged from sixteen to over fourty, and they all stood in lines while the Troll keepers told them where they were working for the day. Some were sent to various farms nearby, others were taken to be auctioned off as personal slaves- mostly the younger men and women- while others yet were going to the beaches and cities to clean litter. Dani and Sven were in the group going to the beach.

The humans were shoved and yelled at to hurry up as they walked to the nearby beach. A few Trolls were already there- but the two younger ones stood out to Dani. She heard whispers about the Zahhaks being there, causing a few of the older slaves to make noises of distress. People were mostly talking about this 'Equius', and Dani guessed they were talking about the youngest one.

The escorts laughed a little. "I suggest you all be quick and obedient with your work," one of them said. "The Zahhaks will break your neck with a simple slap." A few of the newer and younger humans whimpered, while others just started to out-right cry. The rest just stayed silent in understaning. Sven- along with some of the older slaves- have been supervised by the Zahhaks. They had the breaks and bruises to prove the Zahhak's strength.

The humans grabbed a handful of bags per person, and began picking up the beach's litter. A lot of new slaves were still crying, making Dani scowl. She hated criers. Crying admitted defeat. Weakness. She swore she'd never cry the moment she stepped onto Alternian soil.

Whips cracking pulled Dani out of her thoughts. They were being cracked in warning. "Stop your sniveling," the oldest Troll said. "Just stay quiet and work, or else these whips will be cracking more than just sand." A few humans mumbled a 'yes, sir', while others stayed silent and picked up the pace.

Daniela filled her first bag soon enough, and went to toss it in the large bin near the young troll- she's sure that one is Equius. She hesitated when he scowled as she neared the bin. She swallowed the thickness in her throat, not understanding her new-found nervousness, and kept walking.

She froze when she heard a rip, and objects tumble and fall on the ground. She heard a slap, a yelp, and a thud as a young boy hit the ground. She turned to find Equius glaring heatedly at the boy, who was cowering and whimpering slightly.

"You dropped muck and litter on my shoes," he growled, his voice smooth and quiet. It sent chills down Dani's spine. The boy on the ground took shallow breaths, stuttering out as many apologies as he could. He was silenced when the young Zahhak let out a fierce hiss, like you'd hear from a rabid cat.

"Clean this up right now, you sniveling lout, before I break your arm." "Y-yes, sir," the boy whimpered. He hurridly cleaned up the mess, his skin shining with a nervous sweat. The boy scrambled to get up, rushing past Dani to throw the bag away. He ran back to a girl who- she assumed- was most likely his sister.

The young Zahhak turned to Dani, the two staring at each other for, what seemed like, hours. Hr finally made a move- his head tilting to the side, as if he was curious about something. He crossed his arms, the muscles bulging under his grey skin. "And just what are you staring at, worm?" Dani stayed quiet, the chills from before spreading through her chest and face. She never thought she'd be this afraid again.

Equius growled, stepping closer to the human girl. "I asked you a question, so I expect you to answer." Dani took a breath. "N... Nothing... sir." Those words felt heavy as they left her. She threw her bag away, ignoring the pressuring stare of the blue blood. She tried to leave quickly, but his hand gripped her arm painfully. She knew it would bruise later. She froze, tensing up completely.

"The next time I find you dawdling and gawking on work-time, I'll make sure this whip is put to better use than a warning. Do I make myself clear?" A seer made it's way onto Dani's face. "Crystal clear, sir," she hissed, despite her common sense telling her to be as polite as she could be. Equius let out an angry chitter, then shoved her towards the other slaves. With his strength, the simple shove forced her to fall onto her face. The trolls- even some of the human- laughed as she spit sand and broken shells out of her mouth. "You're lucky I didn't smack you for the tone you took with me," Equius growled as Dani stood and stumbled back to Sven. Her eyes and throat burned at the intrusion of the sand.

Sven rubbed her back a little. "You'll get used to it," he told her quietly. Dani grunted, going back to work. Sven sighed a little. "Will you be alright?" The girl grunted in response. "Yeah," she muttered dryly. "I've been through worse." Sven nodded, and the two worked in silence.

Dani went to her thoughts, remembering her plan. 'I can't try that on the blue asshole over there. It's too risky'. She glanced back at Equius from behind her bangs. 'He'd see right through my act. I need a weaker Troll. They'd still need to be a Highblood, though... This isn't going to be as easy as I thought'. It won't be. But she wants out of this. She'll get out.

Or she'll die trying.
I do not own Homestuck- it belongs to Andrew Hussie
I own Dani, Sven and Leah

Yes I finally got the muse for this story back! I'm sorry for the long wait but with everything going on it was hard to actually sit down and write. But I finally did it! So enjoy the update.

I'm not the best w/ Equius so he might be OOC, although I'm p sure he'd act like that w/ humans [bc red blood=low blood so]. But yes I've thought out the story and Eridan will come into the story in chapter six. I know that's a while but I really wanna focus on Dani for a bit so you can really get a feel of her character- since this is the only thing I've done w/ Dani /ever/. But hey at least Equius is in it already!
Sorta.
